I manage a few different blogs, and I am no where near a professional writer or creative with the pen (keyboard). That being the case I often find getting creative with my blog somewhat difficult.

Because of my above mentioned handicap it would be most easy to simply dump the blog idea altogether. But, I’m told that would be the wrong move by every internet marketer alive. I also find the specific blogs a simple location to address specific ideas, changes, or issues with our various fitness industry programs.

So, being the resourceful guy I am… oops, that’s a different story. Today I was fortunate to take a look at one of my RSS feeds at just the right time on small business that happened to give a mention to a company with a cool blogging content assistance program.

I was quickly on my way to check out Zemanta.

No affiliate relationship or commission here. I was just so impressed with some of the features in this tool, which I could easily add as a FireFox add-on, that I want to mention it to the Fit Pros who keep track of things we have going on…. This also makes great worthwhile content for me in making a blog post. I’m using it on this post and tried it first at our nutrition solution blog site.

Zemanta is a tool that looks over your shoulder while you blog and gives you tips and advice, suggests related content and pictures and makes sure your posts get promoted as they deserve to be…

(From Zemanta) YOUR kind of Assistant…

Zemanta bloggers all get a great tool to help them create content and drive inbound traffic. But, we know that every blogger is different, so there are different ways you can use Zemanta, depending on your styles and interests. If you don’t see your area of interest bellow, drop us an email and let us know how you want to use Zemanta.

The excitement over Swine (H1N1) Flu isn’t anywhere near ending. The slow release of vaccine and the steady growth in all types of flu’s, cold’s, and allergies with the Fall season has left many confused and worried.

In the Spring when the first cases were reported out of Mexico, there was a lot of concern from our fitness professionals scheduled to travel to resorts in that part of the world. With the swine flu now reaching most all areas of the world, the concern has changed to personal prevention and telling the difference between more common seasonal ailments and those produced through this new flu strain.

A quick Google search will provide you a great deal of information. Following I have included a nice side by side chart found on the FitSugar site, that displays differing symptoms in the flu vs cold.

I’m not the Doctor nor producer of this chart, but it does appear very consistent with much of the related information I found in researching this topic. Do further educate your self on this topic and consult your physician if you have specific question.

For the Fitness Professional enjoying a working vacation or providing services in your own community, utilizing recommended precautions and knowing the differences in these illnesses can at the least reduce a bit of stress, which we know is good for all of us.

I’m sorry this transformation couldn’t happen on the “big shave” day (Friday), but joining you from here was the next best option I could muster, and the kids really enjoyed participating.

My challenge with this cut is nowhere near yours, but your public display of courage in this battle has been inspiring to myself and our entire family. Positive thoughts and many prayers to you…. Shelly says “Get A Mammogram!”

In America the rising number of overweight and obese make it appear we are actually working to get fat.

Not long ago I generally made the statement that we were 60% overweight or obese and that it was roughly 30% to each of those categories. Current reports put that percentage closer to 70% (67.something), with the larger portion going to “obese”.

The following video was pointed out to me by Dave Soucy. It is a bit long, but full of great information for the fitness professional and may be something you want to share with your clients/students.

This is not an excuse for many of our selections of food and certainly not for the portions we consume. It is also not an excuse for the lack of exercise most choose not to participate in…

… But it is a bit of an eye opener in how it’s not made easy on us either. As a matter of fact, it’s pretty easy to get fat.

Do you have a web presence? This site, a piece of my web presence, is geared to the fitness professional and is on a blogging platform. It allows for your comments and interactions. That is one of the great benefits of a simple blog in that it can be interactive and allows for input and conversation.

The blog is an excellent on-line tool because it is relatively simple, can be optimized for the search engines, and is interactive with your community, but do know that many options exist.

The first on-line presence we had was back in 1997. At that time the internet was booming with anticipation, but little else. Modems were slow, people still used the yellow pages, and used speech rather than text.

Today it is a different world.

Our clients are not only surfing the web for pleasure, they are surfing for information, and business, and companionship, and whatever you can
think of.

If you are not there at this point you have begun to fall behind.

Your clients expect you to be reachable on the internet.

Now, not everybody in the fitness industry is a personal trainer and has “clients”. Group fitness & yoga instructors might think they have
no need of an online presence.

I’m telling you, you’re wrong. Those students look to you as an expert… their expert. They would love your articles, commentary, videos and newsletters.

I’m also telling you, you’re leaving additional streams of income on the table and someone else is picking it up. Everyone of the above communications is another opportunity to teach and to offer other programs, yours or a third party service.

Good content comes first, but this simple location provides you opportunities to inform and even sell on-line and off-line offerings.

Websites are no longer need to be a mysterious secret.
You do not have to have a 10 thousand dollar plus web site to serve your clients or students. You do not need the expensive fancy site to make an extra 10 thousand dollars a month either.

You now have many options available to you and I encourage you to seek them out and establish your on-line presence sooner rather than later.

To get yourself started you have many great resources… Search Google on building your own website or blog. Try YouTube and you’ll find many tutorials on getting yourself set up.

The social media sites are essential even if you already have a presence, but you can also start with those. Get a FaceBook account and you’ll be amazed at how many of your clients and students are already there. Create a fan page around your business and you’ll have a legit spot to promote your offerings.

Wordpress provides you a simple blogging system and Joomla is a bit more complex, but provides a nice content management platform. Both are free.

Yes, we can offer you assistance if you want to stay totally hands off or if you have plans for something more sophisticated. Fitness Pro Travel can provide you many promotional tools. Through our Fit Pro Biz services we can put it all together for you including high end sites that are membership based.

But don’t be afraid of getting started yourself either. It is important that you at the very least have a landing page that people can utilize to contact you… and you can do that yourself with just a small amount of research.

If you are already there/here, great. If not, why not?

Looking for ways to encourage clients to maintain their workout program and have a shot at losing weight? The list of reasons is long, but, at the moment, more important than worrying about developing plaque in your arteries, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, some cancers, loss of physical function, etc. etc. may be their ability to receive emergency help in a crisis.

-Here is an interesting fact / policy they may not be aware of-

A traumatic accident can happen at any moment and will when you least expect it. The emergency services team in your area will respond to provide you whatever life saving care is necessary. That care may include a quick helicopter ride to the nearest trauma center.

….. will your client be considered for this mode of transportation?

In the last month, a NorthWest, air rescue company sent out notice to all local emergency services informing them of weight restrictions for medi-vac. No, I don’t recall specifically what the physical girth measurements are where you become ineligible (for flight safety reasons and available space in the helicopter), but I do know they begin asking specific question when the patients estimated weight is above 250 pounds.

Pass that real world example along to your clients (or to yourself) and see if that encourages the will for losing weight.
