Getting Creative With Your Blog

Writer's Market

I manage a few different blogs, and I am no where near a professional writer or creative with the pen (keyboard).  That being the case I often find getting creative with my blog somewhat difficult.

Because of my above mentioned handicap it would be most easy to simply dump the blog idea altogether. But, I’m told that would be the wrong move by every internet marketer alive.  I also find the specific blogs a simple location to address specific ideas, changes, or issues with our various fitness industry programs.

So, being the resourceful guy I am… oops, that’s a different story.  Today I was fortunate to take a look at one of my RSS feeds at just the right time on small business that happened to give a mention to a company with a cool blogging content assistance program.

I was quickly on my way to check out Zemanta.

No affiliate relationship or commission here.  I was just so impressed with some of the features in this tool, which I could easily add as a FireFox add-on, that I want to mention it to the Fit Pros who keep track of things we have going on…. This also makes great worthwhile content for me in making a blog post.  :-)     I’m using it on this post and tried it first at our nutrition solution blog site.

Zemanta is a tool that looks over your shoulder while you blog and gives you tips and advice, suggests related content and pictures and makes sure your posts get promoted as they deserve to be…

Fitness Education Presenter

Monday, November 9th, 2009

There are several motivators that may drive a fitness professional to consider becoming a fitness education presenter. They are similar to the motivators for an individual to run this track in most any industry.

For the vast majority, that motivation should not be solely monetary gain… at least not directly.

Marketing Health Challenges

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

As a fitness professional the marketing of health can prove very challenging. Especially since this entire subject matter is left as an after thought when it comes to certification training as a fitness professional.

Besides seeking out competent mentors and/or appropriate trainings for marketing health & fitness, it is helpful to look at what larger organizations are doing in regards to this type of marketing.

One example is from the British Government.  The “Change for Life” campaign utilizes a well known group of animated t.v. stars to spread the word… The Simpsons.

Back to the Fitness Industry

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Well… the test didn’t workout so well.  The previous tombomar.com was broken. With several clicks of a few buttons and little bit of research for the quick turn around I think we got this back up with the previous posts in tow.

Fit Beach Fitness Education – Affiliate

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Every year when putting together the details for the Fit Beach Fitness Conference I can’t help to get a bit excited. Spending a week with many friends and fitness industry leaders is always great, but throwing in a bit of the Jamaican culture at a luxury resort brings it to another level.

I learn a great deal. I play a great deal. And, walk away a bit sad knowing it will be another year before we run the conference again.

When Fit Bodies added Fit Beach to their working vacation offerings this provided an added fitness education benefit for the traveling fitness professionals involved in their programs. Working with us, FIT Launch, continued that movement and also encouraged programs that would help the career and business side of being a fitness professional….

Event Based Promotions

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Finding methods to having your products and services stick out from the crowd is essential to your business success.  This not always an easy task even with the many on-line and off-line tools available to the modern day fitness professional.

Event based promotions may be just the added boost you need to stand out.

When piggy backing on a known event you can greatly benefit by running your promotion in conjunction with it.  You do not have to be partnered or attached to an event. You don’t want to suggest that you are a sponsor, creater or affiliated directly with the event if you are not.  But, by running your event parallel to a known event based on the event topic, location, or time you have an excellent chance of bringing attention to your offering.

The most obvious example can be found through the actions of retailers over the years. Christmas, Valentine’s, Halloween, you name it and they are all over attaching their special offer to the event.

In the fitness industry the most common event that most attempt to tie themselves to is the New Years. It is a great theme of new beginnings that bring in many motivated new clients, students, and members, but if you look a bit harder you may see that these same principles can be used on more than just the holidays.

Consider ways to incorporate some of these “Events” into your promotions:

  • Birthdays – yours, a presidents, a member’s
  • Charity happenings
  • Contest (yours or theirs)
  • Superbowl or other sporting event
  • TV show
  • Visiting Conference
  • Taxes due date (yes, I’ve seen this in another industry)

The list can go on.  There are many niche events that exist and you can tie the launch of a new product/service, a fitness camp, or a wellness lecture to. Keep your eyes and mind open and you’ll find some great opportunities to encourage and increase the effectiveness of your promotions with “event based marketing.”

Relationship Marketing – Social Networking – Emotional Branding

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

Relationship Marketing Builds Emotional Branding

Denise Shiffman, in her book “The Age of Engage” spoke to reinventing marketing for today’s connected, collaborative, and hyper-interactive culture. Between her book and Seth Godin’s “Tribes”, many features were honed and planned for the Fitness Pro Travel Site.

The culture of the fitness professional and our clients has changed. Building

transparent, trustworthy, relationships is how the new game is played. If you are not developing social relationships as part of your business strategy, you may soon not be playing at all.

So the question is this: “Are you out there building relationships?

Fitness Marketing Specialist, Pat Rigsby points out that we “should not fall prey to the lure of staying home and thinking marketing is just sending e-mails, occasional press releases and trying a direct mail piece once in a while.”

The results of these outward “push” marketing attempts are at best a superficial connection that is unlikely to develop a long standing client to fitness pro bond. You can develop greater “emotional branding” of yourself and your fitness business through “relationship marketing”. (more…)

Personalize Your Social Space

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

Relatively recently FaceBook added a feature that allows you to personalize your social space.  In the past it had always been a rather long confusing mess of an address and difficult to pass on your space to others.  Now you have an option.

The point of social media is to… well, be social.

Personalizing your profile address will be helpful in assisting with this goal.

Giving Away for the Fitness Prospect

Friday, April 10th, 2009

Giving away anything will go a long way in getting your fitness prospects to take the action you desire.  It is definitely best to provide an item that is relevant to your offerings, but ultimately it is the action itself that drives reciprocity.share

Today I was informed of a cool new tool for Twitter that assists with this type of give-away.  I’m not sure of exactly how I will use it with the fitness professionals or enthusiasts that we associate with on Twitter, but I’m certain there will be one or more things in the future that pertains to the Fitness Pro Travel community.

I’ll be signing up for it tomorrow when back in the office and will be passing on a link to that tool shortly there after. Follow the link below to connect with me on Twitter and learn of the very cool tool….. oh yah, it’s free too!

Mile Run Fitness Event

Mile Run Fitness Event

As a fitness professional nearly everything we do can be broken down into a fitness event of some type. It may be large or small, recurring or a single occurrence. Even if you wouldn’t think of a particular activity as a “fitness event”, if you can find a way to position it as such, you will find added power in your promotional efforts.

The below 8 points will assist you in promoting your next fitness event.

Social Activity = Website Traffic

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Social activity equating to website traffic, may bring out significant change of who’s who in where we get our information online.  FaceBook has grown in size far faster than Google ever did.  Possibly more important, average time of user visit make this social network an extreme heavy hitter in the internet world.

How we utilize the social networking platform, is changing the website traffic game as well.

…For a long time if you wanted your business to get found online, you focused on traditional search engines. You made sure your site could get found in Google and Yahoo and other engines.

But gradually, almost imperceptibly at first, people started changing their online behavior. I’ve noticed it with my own sites, where each month traffic from social sites is growing.

According to a Nielsen report (PDF) out just yesterday, “two-thirds of the world’s Internet population visit a social network or blogging site and the sector now accounts for almost 10% of all internet time.”… (Read Rest of Small Biz Trends Article)

Got Web Presence?

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Do you have a web presence? This site, a piece of my web presence, is geared to the fitness professional and is on a blogging platform. It allows for your comments and interactions. That is one of the great benefits of a simple blog in that it can be interactive and allows for input and conversation.

The blog is an excellent on-line tool because it is relatively simple, can be optimized for the search engines, and is interactive with your community, but do know that many options exist.

The first on-line presence we had was back in 1997. At that time the internet was booming with anticipation, but little else. Modems were slow, people still used the yellow pages, and used speech rather than text.

Today it is a different world.
